During foreign trips, the Internet not only makes it easier to get around and communicate, but also increases travel security. In foreign countries it is often not possible to use Polish SIM cards freely. How to ensure internet abroad? Which SIM card should you choose?
eSIM vs classic SIM card
In Poland, classic SIM cards are still very popular. They come in different sizes to fit the type of device used. SIM cards are used both in smartphones and tablets or mobile routers.
A newer solution is the eSIM card. This is a set of data that must be filled in at the appropriate place in the smartphone settings. However, receiving eSIM cards is only possible with newer hardware. Moreover, there are countries where even the latest smartphones are not equipped with eSIM card reading technology.
SIM cards for a trip abroad - purchased locally
Various types of SIM cards can be purchased abroad - both classic and eSIM. Tourists most often choose to buy pre-paid cards. They allow you to use a purchased amount of data, and some of them also allow you to make calls in the country. Prices of foreign SIM cards vary depending on the package selected, as well as the country itself. Usually the purchase of such a product costs at least PLN 100 - at this price you can find offers that provide several GB of data.
A traditional SIM card must be inserted into the phone and activated. Often the activation itself takes up to several hours, which can be problematic during the first steps in a new place.
