Zanzibar is the most popular island belonging to Tanzania, which attracts tourists from all over the world every year. This is because of its crystal clear waters, beautiful weather and relatively cheap flights. What is the internet issue on Zanzibar?
In Tanzania, there is an option to purchase a local SIM card. This can be done as early as the airport, although such places have much higher prices than smaller outlets in the city. The country's internet works primarily on 3G and LTE connectivity.
Zanzibar is heavily geared toward tourists. For this reason, many companies offer ready-made packages designed with visitors in mind. However, they are definitely more expensive than buying a SIM card and recharging it yourself. It's worth bearing this in mind - the price differences amount to as much as several tens of zlotys per week.
Cellular data in Zanzibar needs to be properly activated. Sometimes this process even takes a few hours. At some points, employees activate the network for the customer, but usually such an option is available only for more expensive packages for tourists.
Internet in Zanzibar does not always provide adequate connection quality. There are areas where coverage turns out to be quite limited and network speeds - low. For this reason, in many cases it is a good idea to purchase two SIM cards from different operators or rent a mobile eSIM router. This is a useful solution, especially if you plan to move all over the island.
An eSIM router will work perfectly in Zanzibar. It connects to the best network available in a given location - regardless of the operator. Thanks to this, the router allows you to use the Internet even where it receives only one network. Up to five different smartphones, tablets or laptops can be successfully connected to the device, which cannot be said of a traditional SIM card.
You pay once for the eSIM router from XOXO WiFi. You can choose the data package that works best for you. After it is used, the Internet slows down, but does not disappear completely. For this reason, it is much more advantageous than a SIM card, which, once the data is used up, stops working until you recharge. You should rent a router from XOXO WiFi already in Poland and take it with you when you travel - including in your carry-on luggage. The device works in up to 150 countries on all continents.
